When you are experiencing uncomfortable feelings such as anger, shame or anxiety, or you

are in a stressful situation, changes happen in your physiology such as your body heating up, your judgement is less clear, muscles contract and your breathing patterns change.

We are emotional creatures, we were born to express emotions freely and openly.  However, many of us learned from an early age to repress emotions in order to fit in, earn love, and be accepted.

Many of these conditionings and programmes are passed down from generations and breathwork can help us to reprogram and let go of some of these patterns that don’t serve us.

For some of us because we weren’t allowed to express certain emotions as children it can feel overwhelming or alien to us when certain emotions arise within us.

The opposite of repression is expression. In order to process our emotions, we need to understand that emotions are energy in motion and when emotions are stuck, we can feel stuck too.

We have the tools to process emotion in the body and mind whether stuck or flowing. But first, we need to learn to recognise and accept our feelings as they come and go.  In moments when you most need to harness the power of your breath – like when you feel scared, scattered or sluggish—you are most likely to breathe shallowly or hold your breath.

Breath is energy and you can use your breath as a tool to change your energy and access uncomfortable feelings and sensations within.

Breathwork can help to dissipate and transform these feelings.

It’s easy to get caught up in stuck emotions, hooks, loops and stories but by being aware how much of your energy is being misspent you can choose where your energy goes and help to transform it.

Each breath is like a little rebirth. An opportunity to be embraced when you recognise it.
